Charles Darwin's birthday, February 12th, is also known as National Darwin Day. This holiday commemorates one of the most influential scientists of all time. Darwin's theory of natural selection and evolution was published with compelling evidence in his book, On the Origin of Species (1859). The theory of evolution was widely accepted as fact by most of the scientific community and many of the public by 1870. Now, National Darwin Day aims to celebrate the groundbreaking work of Charles Darwin and to encourage scientific research.
