Professional Development
The Walter Center for Career Achievement can help you prepare for the future with workshops such as:
So you’re in grad school. What now? – Focusing on early-stage graduate students, this session will share services and resources available to IU graduate students for professionalization and career development. We’ll talk about diverse career options available through an advanced degree (beyond traditional tenure-track positions) as well as effective strategies for expanding your skillsets during your time in grad school.
Developing your Professional Identity – Focusing on mid-stage graduate students, this session will offer an opportunity for participants to reflect on their training and develop language to express their personal professional identities. We will discuss effective strategies for building professional networks to reveal new opportunities and how to incorporate internships and other supplemental training to enrich your graduate experience.
What does it mean to go on the market? – Intended for late-stage graduate students and recent alumni, this workshop will discuss strategies for anticipating and engaging diverse application processes. What is the difference between a CV and a resume? Does it always matter? Just what is a teaching statement? A diversity statement? Beyond approaches to application materials, this workshop will discuss interviewing techniques, job offer negotiation, and best practices for correspondence protocol.
